Our Founders

Nivriti Montessori was founded in 2017 by Rukmini Banerjee and Anjana Setlur. Both of them have been teaching and running operations since then. They are also on the Board of Examiners at the Montessori Institute of Bangalore and continue to contribute to the growth of the Montessori community.

In 2021, Mona Thejaswi came onboard to accelerate Nivriti's growth and take it to a higher level.

Anjana Setlur

Anjana is an Information Science and Technology Engineer by qualification but deeply resonates with being a Montessori educator first. Having lived in London, Dubai and Hong Kong, Anjana returned to Bangalore in 2011.

She has international exposure to the Montessori method with both her children being Montessori educated in India and abroad. What fascinated her was the level of independence and exploratory learning her children displayed at a very young age and this drew her to the Montessori philosophy of education.

She decided to pursue a Diploma in Montessori education and found herself transformed by the intense Association Montessori Internationale (AMI) course that she underwent. Having worked at Headstart Montessori House of Children for 2 years, she realised that Montessori education is the way forward not only in terms of the quality of learning but also in creating good human beings for a better tomorrow. In Maria Montessori’s words, “The child is both a hope and a promise for mankind.”

Rukmini Bannerjee

A seasoned professional banker turned educator, Rukmini, armed with a MBA in Finance, started her career with a premium lifestyle magazine ‘Verve’ managing editorial operations. Post publishing business, Rukmini spent over two decades in banking across various functions at Bank of Tokyo Mitsubishi, Calyon Bank & HDFC Bank.

In 2011, with her son’s initiation into a Montessori environment, she realized the impact of the Montessori pedagogy which embraced her child’s unique individuality and celebrated his personal abilities. A strong desire to be involved in this child-centric educational approach led her into acquiring a Diploma as a Montessori Adult/teacher from the Association Montessori Internationale (AMI). She taught for 2 years at Arunodoy Montessori House of Children - one of Bangalore’s oldest Montessori schools.

Rukmini is also a certified Ashtanga and Hatha yoga teacher and loves to bring the richness of this ancient Indian science to the learning environment.

Mona Thejaswi

She has helmed the marketing and allied departments at a real estate firm and has more than 17 years of work experience in the field. Her Masters in Industrial Psychology has modelled her into a person who can empower individuals to plan strategically and utilise resources to the best of abilities.

Her relationship with Montessori started with the education of her energetic child who found his niche in the hands of the Montessori methodology.

The benefits of the Montessori system that she experienced first-hand, inspired her to partner with Nivriti Montessori.
